Nice hotel, very friendly staff. Room was clean and looked to have been recently decorated. Breakfast was delicious as were the evening meals
I was returning home from Heathrow. It was the night of storm Claudia and all roads leading to my home town were flooded. On advice from emergency services on the road I decided to stay the night on the way to home, couldn’t find any place to stay except here. The gentleman on the phone was super nice. The place was cosy and squeaky clean. There’s free parking on the back of the hotel and that was much needed. Bathroom was modern and well heated. I didn’t have any adaptor for my phone and they lent me theirs. They guided me to nearby charging station for my car. Breakfast was included and great, cooked on order, service was exceptional. My son who didn’t want breakfast ended up ordering pancakes and devoured them with a comment “they’re really nice, proper homemade”. I could not thank them enough on the day due to the stress of the situation so leaving a review to say thank you and what a difference they made to an otherwise very challenging night.
FOOD REVIEW ONLY. Booked here for lunch for pre-fathers day meal. They had a good sized separate vegan menu. Great selection and lovely to have more than one choice! I had the cauliflower wings to start, which were good. The the chickpea and sweetcorn fajita burger, which was also nice but a bit messy as the patty didn't hold its shape. For dessert i had the peanut sponge which was also good. My husband had the meat burger he enjoyed it and my daughter had the kids fish and chips which was a generous size, also enjoyed. They had highchairs for children. Over all nice place to eat with nice choices, I would return.
Absolutely loved our stay in the lion. Mark the host is so genuine and helpful. The evening meal was something else, the burger and sides was so so tasty. Even the Mrs loved it and she knows her food. Great location for the heritage sites. See you again Shaun
We stopped quickly for tea and cake, and the staff promptly set up a table for all nine of us. It was lovely, delicious cake and such a nice place!
Fantastic bar & restaurant. Staff go above and beyond, constantly checking if you need more drinks, checking food is okay, recommending desserts - even when they are exceptionally busy. Great atmosphere. Food & drinks were amazing. Will definitely be returning
Came here with our toddler and did the 2 for £20 deal for lunch. Had nice drinks and had some lovely food. Service was great too. Would recommend if you're in the area
Had a family meal here and it was blooming delicious! Great pub grub and friendly service, I cannot wait to return. We all had something different and we all started with food envy but once we started eating we were all more than content. The car ride home was full of compliments for the food. Thank you! I wish I could recommend one particular dish but they were all great. Only negative was the cleanliness of the drinking glasses, some were slightly marked. Don’t let that put you off!
We searched for a new place to meet friends for Sunday lunch vaguely between Cardiff and Newport. We were not disappointed. Good, hearty food with a goodly amount. Good quality and tasty. Cooked well and presented nicely. The team were friendly enough. Our server lacked some detailed knowledge of where ingredients were from geographically (eg ice cream) - but we were being very nosey. We could have enjoyed a little more interaction with the team but they seemed young and shy. The restaurant furniture was heavy and solid; we were glad to give our bums some comfort back in the cars - nice car park on site and another very close by. A cosy, warm place. The lunch was nice. Nothing mind blowing but no disappointment at all. The menu on site was updated to the one online. The dessert I had coveted was not listed, sadly. We would return, yeah. It's off the beaten track, so not the world's greatest location. But we had a nice drive out of the cities and a nice time.
Absolutely stunning food!!! I had the chicken breast with dauphinoise potato and creamy cheddar cheese sauce. It was honestly one of the best meals I've ever had! Wish I'd taken a photo! My husband had the cheeseburger and thought the bread was amazing, as was the burger. We are so lucky that this fabulous restaurant/ hotel is just a few miles away from our house, we shall return....soon!!!!
